Spider/ The If Thing and The Pitch [QOOB Theater]: Nash Edgerton
QOOB has helped another jem of the short format come to life:
Straight out of Down-Under, explosive stuntman-editor-producer-writer-actor-director Nash Edgerton delivers his latest effort, “Spider”, a 9-minute action-thriller that gives an all-new meaning to old Peugeots, stunning blondes and love-jokes. The movie, written by Nash and David Michod and soundtracked for the occasion by Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee, was shot on location in Sydney and features in his cast Nash himself (as Jack) and rising star of the Australian film scene Mirrah Foulkes (as Jill). Already selected at the Sydney Film Festival, “Spider” will rotate on the TV channel, on the website as streaming on demand and on QOOB podcasts. Just remember: it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
In a unique approach to subvert the traditional awards show format, award-winning filmmaker Nash Edgerton and his production company Blue Tongue Films were approached by IF magazine to create a series of interstitials for the television broadcast of the 2005 IF Awards. Written by David Michod (who’s also co-written “Spider“) and Edgerton, directed by Edgerton, the IF Thing provided a satirical narrative thread that ran through the ceremony. Shot on location around Sydney, and starring Joel Edgerton, Nash Edgerton, David Michod, Kieran Darcy-Smith and Amy Rose as themselves, the film used a mockumentary-style approach made famous in the award-winning British comedy series The Office and plays with the idea of a film-within-a-film. And, what’s more, the soundtrack to this movie has been provided by a Qoob user, Joshmease. Ain’t it great?
A young and sparkly film-maker tries and explain his fabulous and explosive idea about a short action movie. Have you seen MI:2? Nevermind… Baam, ECU, EECU… know what I’m saying? One of the first works by Nash Edgerton, talent extraordinaire from Down Under.

ABOUT
Nash Edgerton knows his craft from both sides of the camera from his work as an actor, stunt performer, editor, producer, writer, and director.
Since his short DEADLINE, which took out the top prize at Tropfest in 1997, Nash has directed a number of award-winning short films, music videos and commercials featuring actors such as Rose Byrne, Joel Edgerton, Radha Mitchell, Kestie Morassi and Dan Wyllie.
The action packed trailer for Tropfest called THE PITCH was followed by the horror/thriller FUEL and the stunt-driven LUCKY, all shorts that screened to acclaim locally and abroad at festivals including Sundance, Berlin, Aspen, PiFan, St Kilda and Flickerfest.
His career in music videos has won him various awards and ARIA nominations for work with leading Australian artists including Ben Lee, Eskimo Joe, Missy Higgins, Toni Collette, Pacifier and The Sleepy Jackson.
Nash’s filmmaking career began at the age of 18 as a stunt performer. Since that time he has earned over 100 film and television credits on productions including THE MATRIX TRILOGY, STAR WARS II and III, THIN RED LINE, SUPERMAN RETURNS and most recently ROGUE. He is also an accomplished editor.
In 2004 Nash recognised the potential of fellow filmmaker Scott Ryan’s self funded debut feature when he first saw a rough cut. The next day he offered to come on board as a producer and editor to help fully realise the picture. He then brought on acclaimed producer Michele Bennett (CHOPPER) to produce with himself and Ryan. The result is the feature film THE MAGICIAN, one of only four Australian films selected to screen at the 2005 Sydney Film Festival. The darkly comic tale of a Melbourne-based hit man has since screened at the Melbourne, New Zealand and Edinburgh Film Festivals and opened theatrically to critic acclaim in Australia through Hopscotch Films and in the UK through Trinity Filmed Entertainment.
Nash is represented in Australia by CHERUB PICTURES, in the US by THE DIRECTORS BUREAU and in Europe by YELLOW HOUSE.
